Imports of cheeses to Romania reach two digits yearly growth

Romanian consumers increasingly look towards speciality and gourmet foods, their tastes become more sophisticated as their purchasing power increases.
Imports of gourmet foods into Romania has been increasing, while local producers diversify their offer to adapt to the market demand.
In regards to cheeses, statistics show that imports of grated or powdered cheese registered a considerable increase in the last 3 years, with over 20% annually. At the same time, imports of blue-veined cheese and other cheeses of the Roquefort type registered an annual increase of over 10% in the last 3 years.
The most spectaculous growth has been of the imports of "other cheeses" (cheese for processing, Emmentaler, Gruyère, Sbrinz, Bergkäse, Appenzell, Fromage fribourgeois, Vacherin Mont d'Or and Tête de Moine, Cheddar, Edam, Tilsit, Kashkaval, Feta, Kefalo-Tyri, Finlandia, Jarlsberg) of over 25% in 2013 vs. 2012.
