FDI in Romania goes up 39% in H1 2015

The Romanian economy is one of the most dynamic economies in the European Union. With a population of approx. 21 million, Romania is an emerging EU member-state market with a solid financial system (own stable currency) and stable democratic political system.
In the first 6 months of 2015, FDI in Romania registered EUR 1.659 million, as 39 % higher against the same period last year. Equity (including estimated net reinvestment of earnings) amounted to EUR 943 million and intercompany lending to EUR 716 million (net).

  1. Foreign direct investment in Romania amounted to EUR 2.421 billion in 2014.

    By economic activity, the bulk of foreign direct investments went to the manufacturing industry (32% of the total), where the largest recipients were oil processing, chemicals, rubber and plastic products (5.7%) and means of transport (5.4%).

    Financial brokerage and insurance attracted 13% of total FDI in 2014, followed by trade (11.7%), construction and real estate transactions (9.8%), and the IT&C industry (6%).

    Romania’s top five foreign investors by share of FDI stock as of 31 December 2014 were the Netherlands (23.6%), Austria (16.1%), Germany (12.4%), Cyprus (7.1%), and France (6.8%).
