Romania's automotive manufacturing industry has been registering an upward trend for several years now. In 2014 the total industry estimated turnover was about 18 billion EUR, while in 2015 the sector registered a 11% increase exceeding 20 billion EUR. New facilities expansions and investments are taking place in 2016 and have been announced for 2017.
Some of the major players operating in Romania include Autoliv, Continental, Delphi Packard Takata, Michelin, Hella, Robert Bosch.
According to an FRD Center sector analysis, the highest net turnover increases in 2015 vs 2014 have been registered by:
- Autoliv Romania: +138 million EUR
- Hella Romania: +114 million EUR
- Robert Bosch: +100 million EUR
There are over 200,000 people employed in the automotive manufacturing industry in Romania, a sector which generates exports of over 13 billion EUR, representing some 24% of the total value of the Romanian exports.
Recent investments and production facilities expansion have been made by Federal Mogul Motorparts, Yazaki, Faist, Daimler / Star Assembly, TRW etc.
