"We, at FRD Center, are constantly monitoring various sectors and analysing certain potential opportunities for investors, for exporters and for those looking to source from Romanian and Eastern European manufacturers."
said Jackie Bojor, Director, FRD Center.

The Romanian Industrial Manufacturing sector presents numerous opportunities for foreign suppliers of machinery, of precision tools, CNC, of special materials, machine-tools, industrial chemicals, tooling etc. and for foreign metal processors, such as manufacturers of bronze bearings, hollow bars and precision casting to outsource production in Romania.

FRD Center operates direct contacts at decision maker level business people in Romania, facilitating access of potential foreign exporters and strategic investors to the local companies’ Owner-Managers.

Are you looking to connect with local specialised importer-distributors and direct buyers or with local suppliers / manufacturers in markets such as Romania, Czech Republic or Poland? Perhaps we can collaborate.

The Romanian industrial manufacturing sector comprises mainly of:

- automotive: OEM and auto components
- heavy machinery and machine-tools
- chemical, including plastic, paints & varnishes, glass, cement etc.
- mining and aggregates
- agricultural machinery
- oil and drilling equipment manufacturing
- naval, aviation and defence
- furniture, home appliances, white goods
- metal casting

Romania is also a strong metallurgical player in Europe. In spite of using the production installations only at 70.8% of their capacity, the gross steel production in Romania amounted to 3.4 million tonnes in 2016.

In 2016, it was observed an increase in production capacities in some metallurgical sectors in Romania compared to the previous year. The largest increases in production capacities were recorded for

  • steel used for continuous casting (+ 27.1%)
  • coated products (+ 15.8%)
  • cast iron and ferro-alloys (+ 1.6%)
  • hot rolled flat products (+ 1.4%)
Romania ranked 38th among steel producers worldwide in 2016, according to the World Steel Association. The local production reached 3.3 million tons in 2016. Market players consider that the growing trend observed in 2016 was also maintained throughout 2017 (official estimations not available yet at the time of this brief).

In 2017, the largest metallurgical players in Romania - ArcelorMittal Galati, Tenaris Silcotub Zalau, Mairon Galati, TMK-Artrom, COS Targoviste - together have over 10,000 employees. The five players had a cumulated business worth more than 1.7 bnEUR in 2016

As a EU member, the steel production industry in Romania was also slightly affected by imports of cheap steel from China during 2015-2016. However, the anti-dumping measures taken by the EU started to show results in 2017.

The gross nominal gross monthly salary in 2016 for the Metallurgical Industry in Romania was 3.432 RON
